As Australian Made Week approaches, we’re celebrating our commitment to local manufacturing—and there’s no better time to spotlight one of our proudest achievements: our Australian Made CNC compression router cutters.
We sat down with our Managing Director, Sam Czyczelis, to talk about how Leitz Tooling is shaping the future of Australian manufacturing with premium, locally produced CNC tooling for timber, woodworking, and advanced materials industries.
The Rise of CNC Machining—and the need for local solutions
Over the past decade, CNC machining has become a cornerstone of Australian manufacturing. With its precision, speed, and flexibility, CNC technology is now essential across manufacturing sectors from cabinetmaking and furniture production to architectural joinery and advanced materials processing.
“As CNC machine usage grows, so does the need for reliable, high-performance CNC tools,” says Sam. “That’s why we’ve invested heavily in producing compression router cutters right here in Melbourne—to give our customers access to top-tier carbide tools without the wait or compromise.”
Locally Made, Globally Competitive CNC Tools
Leitz Tooling Systems has been serving the Australian market since 1992. With a manufacturing facility in Bayswater, Victoria, and a network of sales and service teams across Australia and New Zealand, we’ve become the go-to tooling partner for cabinetmakers, kitchen manufacturers, furniture makers, and more.
In 2017, we launched our Australian Made compression router cutter range, purpose-designed for the Aussie market. Since then, demand has surged.
“We recently added a third ANCA grinding machine to keep up,” Sam explains. “And we’re not stopping there—a fourth machine is on its way this year to increase our capacity by 25%.”
The best part? The ANCA machines themselves are also Australian Made, further strengthening our local manufacturing ecosystem.
Why Australian Made Tooling Matters
When it comes to CNC tools, especially carbide compression cutters, quality and availability are everything. By manufacturing locally, we eliminate the long lead times that come with overseas imports.
“Our customers can get what they need, when they need it,” Sam says. “There’s no waiting or unpredictable shipping delays. That’s a huge competitive edge.”
And it’s not just about speed. Australian Made tooling also means superior craftsmanship and quality control.
“Cheaper imported tools may look similar on the surface, but they wear out faster. Our compression routers are precision-ground for longevity and performance using only the best quality carbide,” he adds. “It’s why our customers keep coming back.”
Backing Australian Industry—And Taking It Global
While Leitz is part of a global organisation, we’re deeply committed to growing Australian manufacturing. That includes supporting local jobs, investing in advanced tooling technology, and exporting our products to the world.
“New Zealand is a strong market for us, but we also export to the US, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand,” Sam says. “The US is our biggest export market right now—it’s growing fast thanks to the quality and competitiveness of our tools.”
Whether it’s handcrafted timber furniture or large-scale architectural projects, our carbide compression cutters are helping Australian businesses produce better, faster, and more sustainably.
Shaping the Future of Tooling in Australia
At Leitz, we don’t just make tools—we partner with our customers to help them grow. That means delivering high-performance CNC tooling solutions, offering expert support, and staying ahead of the curve with continuous innovation.
“We’re proud to be Australian Made,” says Sam. “From cabinet shops to large-scale manufacturing, we’re here to support the next generation of makers, builders, and innovators.”
As we gear up for Australian Made Week, we’re honoured to play our part in strengthening local industry—one high-performance router cutter at a time.
